After the celebs have started promoting a vegan lifestyle and their transformation stories, people have started to look for vegan recipes. Whether you are eating vegan foods to prevent animal cruelty or for health benefits, it is sure that a vegan diet is going to be a trendsetter in the future.

You won’t believe it, but according to the reports, out of 1 million Americans who are vegan, around 80% of them are women. Do you know the reason behind this ratio? Is this because women are more health-conscious and dedicated? No, because men like to eat meat more than women. Therefore, it is believed that it is easier for women not to eat meat and to consume other products.

Research Calculated the Percentage of Male and Female Who Are Vegans

In the recent vegan society survey, it is reported that people who are identified as vegan were 37% male and 63% female. Meat increases male’s lean muscle mass and keeps them full for longer. The amino acid in meat is also responsible for maintaining muscle mass. It is full of nutrients and promotes a healthier immune system.

Twine, a senior lecturer in Social sciences at Edge Hill University, said,

“Men who are invested in inflexible models of masculinity as opposed to seeing gender identity as socially constructed and changeable, tend to have more problem with the idea of compassion to other animals, as historically that has been antithetical to dominant models of masculinity."

The consumption of meat is associated with heterosexual masculinity. Also, men do not worry about their looks and what they are eating. Women, on the other hand, focus on their bodies. Some even have pressure to look thinner and beautiful in society. Thus, they become food conscious.

It is also found that nearly 75% of women are involved in animal rights groups. Several animal activists have been working to save the animals for the centuries.

Women Avoid Eating Meat and Feel the Pain of Animals

Several people from the University of Adelaide were recruited for the study and were divided into two groups. The groups were asked to select a lamb dish they would eat and were also give some information.

While one-half of people were given the information about how animals (lambs) were slaughtered and reared, the others were asked to know about the meal’s nutritional content. Each participant was observed until the end of the study.

The psychologist Semmler said,

“We saw some really interesting things happen.”

It was noticed that most men were not affected after reading the connection between animals and meat. Women were less attached to the meat, and more men were carnivores. It was also noted that men could eat meat directly without feeling the pain and knowing that it is essential for health. Men find meat more appealing when they found that it is made from animals.

In 2013, a study conducted by Hank Rothgerber found that women were likely to use avoidance strategies to avoid eating meat.
