Indeed! People are becoming aware of the vegetarian and vegan diet and are following them for several reasons. Several studies have revealed that a vegan diet offers life-transforming benefits and is also beneficial for the environment. A recent study conducted found that a vegan or vegetarian diet is related to personality.
According to a survey, over 6 million Germans stated that they consumed a vegetarian diet last year. A study at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in cooperation with University Hospital of Leipzig examined over 9000 people and found that anything that a person eats is related to the body and psyche, irrespective of education and gender.
The study found that those who consumed less or no meat products have a lower body mass index. The reason behind this could be less proportion of processed fats that are found in animal products. Products that are rich in fats increase weight, usually.
Furthermore, it was revealed that a vegan and vegetarian diet is related to personality. People who consumed plant-based foods were more introverted and slimmer than those who consume meat products.
The study leader, Veronica Witte, said,
“It could be because more introverted people tend to have more restrictive eating habits or because they are more socially segregated because of their eating habits.”
She further added,
“Earlier analyses had found that more neurotic people were generally more likely to avoid certain groups of foods and to behave more restrictively. We focused here solely on the avoidance of animal products and could not observe any correlation.”
However, the study doesn’t confirm that a plant-based diet is associated with neurotic behavior.
The author of the publication, Evelyn Medawar, said,
“A person with a 1.2 point lower BMI on average either completely avoids certain animal products, such as the primary ones, and is on a vegetarian diet. Or she continues to eat meat and fish, but less often. Whether nutrition is ultimately the cause of lower body weight or whether other factors are responsible for it cannot be determined from the data. A follow-up study in cooperation with the University Hospital Leipzig will now shed light on this.”
Earlier people believed that a vegan diet has less energy and has a deficiency of vitamins and minerals. But several vegan diet myths have been debunked and proved that this diet offers several health benefits.
Consuming a vegetarian diet prevents you from several diseases. For instance, a vegetarian diet is recommended to prevent urinary tract infections. Also, vegetarian foods contain fiber and have a positive effect on the microbiome.
Consuming animal products, especially meat, can cause several problems like cardiovascular issues. If you are thinking of becoming a vegetarian, then believe us that it is not a difficult task.
Vegetarian is not just a type of diet, but more of a lifestyle. It’s a healthier choice you make for the people, for the animals, and for a better planet
