The Vegan Meat Brand “Heura” Wins 2020 Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Veganism is gaining popularity around the world for several reasons. Be it a restaurant or a cafe: everyone is adding vegan recipes on their menu to meet customer requirements.

Recently, Barcelona-based vegan meat brand, Heura won the 2020 Entrepreneur of the Year Award given by the Spanish magazine Emprendedores de España. The award was given to the brand’s Co-Founder and CEO, Marc Coloma.

He said,

“The companies of the future are the ones that integrate the social and the economic, and transform society. Traditions need to be updated and we are making better meat that responds to global challenges. Nothing has more strength than an idea whose time has come and now is the time for vegan meat.”

Foods for Tomorrow Now Heura has Revolutionised Foods Based on Vegetable Protein

Founded in 2017 by Coloma and Bernat Añaños, Heura earlier was known as ‘Foods for Tomorrow’ and was established with the mission of creating plant-based meats and avoiding animal consumption. Since then, it has released several products, including meatballs, pizza, chicken, and more. The brand announced its growth of 450% in 2020 and offers its products in the United Kingdom, Singapore, Netherlands, and other countries.

Heura represents a new generation of vegetable proteins using innovative techniques that not everyone has seen in the plant kingdom. The brand is reinventing the food system to meet the challenges of the growing population while considering environmental concerns.

In February, Spain’s government-backed NEOTEC program of the Center for Industrial Technological Development raised ($271,000) for Heura. Through a two-year program, the company is planning to continue to fulfill its mission of democratizing access to plant-based foods. The Co-Founder said,

“Our mission is to stop the exploitation of animal sources and democratize access to delicious, nutritious, and sustainable plant-based meat, and being supported by the NEOTEC program validates the need to move to a more sustainable food system.”

He added,

“This change is going to happen, what we want is to accelerate it as much as possible. Being part of the NEOTEC Program is a great sign that institutions are joining what a lot of companies and consumers were already doing. If governments and international organizations such as the UN or the EU support plant-based meat companies … it will be a huge win for the protein switch.”

The brand would release more products in Canada and other countries in the coming year.
