Veganism in Chile is Increasing Particularly in People Under 30

The environmental survey that was conducted in Chile in 2018 found that over 1.5 million people living in Chile were avoiding meat in their regular diet. Around 75% of people said that they would reduce meat consumption due to environmental concerns.

While some people reduced meat consumption due to health reasons, others said they do not want to contribute to animal suffering. Several countries, like the United States and Africa, are reducing meat consumption; Chile is not an exception. It seems that veganism is growing in Chile day by day. Out of the top 5 vegan companies in Spanish-speaking countries, two of them were from Chile with the best GDP performance in America in 2020.

People are Becoming Aware of How Food Products Can Make an Impact on the Environment and Health

Companies like The Live Green Co use modern technologies to prepare authentic foods of vegetable origin. NotCo, a producer of vegan alternatives, has made a major impact on the food industry. The founder of The Live Green Co, Priyanka Srinivas, said,

“The world is becoming more aware of how food impacts health and sustainability.”

The company sells products to over 130 outlets and throughout Chile and also signed a contract with the largest retailer in South American Country.

This year, the popular US pizza chain Papa John’s launched its new vegan pizza, The Vegan Royal, at several stores in Chile. Apart from this, several NGOs in Chile are promoting a plant-based lifestyle in the country. Nearly 10-15 years ago, people in Chile had no idea about vegan food. But today, people who are below 30 are promoting and encouraging others to go vegan.

According to Google trends, South Africa is ranked in the 14th position when searched for Vegan. However, there is no exact number of vegans in South Africa, but people are increasing awareness about veganism day by day. Restaurants also are including vegan meals in their menu and encouraging people to avoid animal products.

South Africa is the top consumer of beef, pork, poultry, and lamb. But after the coronavirus pandemic, people have reduced the consumption of animal products. They are looking for meat alternatives and including more vegan foods in their diet.

The vegan diet is preferred to be better for the environment and animals. It also offers several health benefits and prevents severe disease. Today, Chile is not the only country with people preferring veganism, but several countries are also adopting veganism for good.
